Nico Bedroom Session '71 LP
Nico Bedroom Session '71 LP
Couldn’t let this one pass through without a listen and a chance to blurb… Nico and Lou in rehearsal mode in the Chelsea Hotel (google tells me in the room of rock writer Lisa Robinson) in 1971. I gotta assume this is for that early 1972 Bataclan reunion with Cale, because here they revisit the classics from the first VU LP and Chelsea Girls , trying to figure out the vocal phrasing, pace of the tracks, and just generally mucking around (Lou with a quick little take of Chuck Berry’s Little Queenie in there).
As with so many bootlegs, there’s a fun mystery around this. According to the sticker on the cover, Andy Warhol is kicking around in the room too (although I can’t hear him). Were others in his entourage kicking around too? Perhaps Brigid Berlin? And this is a by-catch of her constant tape recording? Or is Andy’s name on the cover just a marketing gimmick? Perhaps it just Lou’s habit to record rehearsals for later reference? The only other rehearsal tape bootlegs I can recall ever hearing are the Legendary Guitar Amp Tapes.
All these mysteries and more… but what is undeniable is the power of Nico’s voice, even on these shaky tape recordings!
Would @lisarobinsonnyc want to shine more light on this??
