Scrounging around in the reissue racks, I figured its time to delve into Yoko Ono’s more straight up work. Feeling The Space is distanced from the annoying John Lennon-isms of some of the other Ono Band work (he only makes a brief cameo here, thankfully), instead making a staunch early 70s feminist concept album.
Maybe I’ve missed all the references, but listening to this album it makes me wonder why Ono isn’t more regularly evoked when discussing more contemporary “freak folk” musicians like Aldous Harding or Cate Le Bon. Similarly lush, out of left-field arrangements and vocals that are still grounded in some sort of song-form. Why bother name dropping private press records when you can run with the classics!
