If you're unfamiliar with Warren Zevon he's basically Randy Newman for GG Allin fans. I say this with tongue-in-cheek but he's a complex guy to position. Associated with a mostly dull Californian cohort of 70s soft rock songwriters, but also has a good dose of dark sarcasm and “troubled genius”. I admit this sounds annoying but I love his two 70s records more than most music.
This set of demos and rarities provides great insight, and while I love how those 70s records sound the guy knocks it out of the park with these mostly mid-fidelity striped back recordings. - Nic
