Various - The Sun Is Not True LP
This year marked the 300th release from longstanding label Carbon Records, one of the most consistent and intriguing purveyors of outsider guitar music since the New Weird American explosion of the 00s. To celebrate, The Sun Is Not True collects a who’s-who of this world (including lots of shop favourites) across the spectrum of guitar music that the label issues.
Bookended by the post-Jack Rose/American Primitive-return playing of Liam Grant/Grayson McGuire/Trevor McKenzie and Ethan WL, the comp ranges from a song-based cut from David Nance, to abstract edge-of-song eclecticism of Spatulas and Holt Boldish (of Mordecai fame), through to the abstracted compositions of Greymouth and Rock Candy (AKA the Emily Robb and Kryssi Battalene collab), through to contributions from heavyweights of the extended guitar technique world such as Thurston Moore and Bruce Russell (as part of Escalation).
LP packaged in repurposed bargain bin jackets that have been silkscreened with paste-on back cover and riso’d insert listing all 300 release.
Long may they run!
