Since his passing in 2008, the Danish Fluxus artist Henning Christiansen’s archives have been gradually filtering into a broader audience thanks to Penultimate Press and other labels.
This release compiles four pieces that are not necessarily from Christiansen’s oeuvre, but inspired by his collaborative spirit and engagement with art making as a radical political act. Performed during a marathon 6 hour event in the car park of The Box Gallery in LA in November last year, these performances see a restaging of archival pieces or a use of archival material to create new pieces.
Featuring works by Thorbjørn Reuter Christiansen, Bjørn Nørgaard, Mai Dengsøe Hansen, Paul McCarthy, Mara McCarthy, Chiara Giovando, and Mark Harwood, this release offers a beautifully compiled and richly productive documentation of a performance series and meditation on the ongoing importance and relevance of Christiansen’s work. -Mitch
