Joining the ranks of genre-specific deep cut comps in the racks such as Killed By Death and Brown Acid in the racks, Hillbillies From Hell covers the turf of dark and unsettling country sides that buck the popular image (at least here in Oz) of country music as a genre purely for boozing, driving, and womanising tracks.
On this collection, forgotten or overlooked names butt up against the uber famous (Dolly, Waylon, and Porter) with a couple of haunting takes of Long Dark Veil, forays into hillbilly psychedelic use (Merritt Jordan’s ‘The Last Trip’ a particular highlight), unsettling tales of children’s dolls, murder and death, and the requisite annoying novelty song about Evolution. Something for everyone!
