As much as I love Townes, I’ve gotta admit that if you’re going to hear/own one album, this is the one.
Taped in 1973 in the sweltering but intimate Old Quarter venue, Townes is on! His classics (and a handful of covers, including Lightnin Hopkins and Merle Travis tracks) are here stripped of adornment and accompaniment, just Townes and a guitar. With a few cheesy jokes peppered through the set, as a treat.
