DOUG YULE APPRECIATION POST!
It pains me to see that Yule doesn’t get the love he deserves. In one sense, he was the perfect bandmate, the kind of team player that is happy sitting in a supporting role that serviced songs not egos. And what would the third VU LP be without him? Yule’s addition to the band allowed Sterling Morrison to move to guitar full-time (some of his best moments on this album—THAT solo on What Goes On), allowed Lou’s songwriting to move to the fore (no Cale distractions), and his own playing/singing is also killer (that gentle quiver in his voice during Candy Says… so good!).
Not sure if I can attribute the other classic moment on this album to Doug (Moe Tucker’s vocals on After Hours), but can say that I reckon that this is my favourite Velvet Underground LP!
