This collection from The Trypes landed earlier in the week and it’s been a nice time getting my head around it. A kind of sister-band to The Feelies, this LP bridges the temporal and sonic gap between Crazy Rhythms and The Good Earth. Consisting of the group’s 1984 EP and a bunch of bonus material from the era, Music For Neighbours moves the jitteriness of the earlier 80s into a more pastoral strum but with the same chordal and rhythmic minimalism. Yet there’s an open-endedness (and dare I say, folkiness) to these tracks that comes with the a casual music project featuring over 6 members. One not only for fans of The Feelies, but also Flaming Tunes and Kiwi Animal!
