Ooh baby this one’s a toe dipper’s delight! Some of the most exhilarating music ever made compiled on two LPs. Too young to experience the UK Jungle phenomenon firsthand, I caught a whiff of the tailend via popular culture (*cough* Da Ali G Show *cough*), but in Northern regions of Queensland all that I could locate was the proto-barefoot-is-legal rainforest psytrance and drum ‘n’ bass that was wee bit too, how do you say, cyber.

Where was that “MASSIVE” and “INCREDIBLE” sound I was craving? How are these MCs so dexterous yet powerful? How are these rhythms so hard and raw? Why haven’t I (circa 2002) seen any representation of a Black population in British popular culture? From this fusion of Jamaican Dancehall and Acid House I’m led to believe they exist and are heavily involved in a wonderful, cutting edge, multicultural music scene. - Nic
