The latest from veteran NZ deconstructed-rock pioneers sees the trio trade in their signature sonic barrage for a more meditative, minimal approach. That being said, his isn’t some “Unplugged” session for the group, nor are they mellowing out over time, this is still very much The Dead C.
Yet this is probably the most “rock band” mix of The Dead C that I can recall hearing. Guitars sit further back ominously warbling and echoing, with Morely’s vocals more prominent than normal, and Yeats’ drumming seemingly more patterned and straight, yet just as expressive.
