Spider Taylor - Surge Studio Music LP

Apparently, Spider Taylor was credited by a young Eddie Van Halen as the best guitarist in the world. While he may have been a shredder, this collection veers in a different direction. This release surveys Taylor’s work for the popular Surge Studios production house between 1985 and 1986. Dipping into often ethereal and new age sounds on the A-side, one regular in the shop remarked that this almost sounds like Eno’s collaborations with Jon Hassell, replete with synth arpeggios, bongos and auxiliary percussion, and pentatonic melodies. The B-Side strings together futuristic leaning tracks of bassline grooves, stuttering drum machines, and neon-coloured synth lines. - Mitch
