Silicone Prairie - Vol. II LP
Silicone Prairie - Vol. II LP
Formed in Missouri, but migrated to Australia somewhere around the release of ‘Vol. II’, Ian Teeple’s Silicone Prairie exists in a pretty unique space in the post-Omicron, post-Coneheads, next-wave-of-Aus-Garage-bands-at-Gonerfest world. Coming from a scene that’s usually walloping the listener with high energy, jittery, pulling funny faced style antics (I took the long road to writing egg punk), ‘twas a shock cracking open ‘Vol. II’ and hearing something more attuned to the artful and emotionally earnest sophisti/power-pop sound of Game Theory, The Moles, Orange Juice, The Wedding Present or more recently Home Blitz and Chronophage.
I request the next Silly P album be a live-in-studio affair with the hot shot band of Australians he’s assembled! — Nic
It’s wild out there on the Silicone Prairie…
Ian Teeple of Snooper, Warm Bodies and Natural Man Band fame returns for a much welcome second LP under the Silicone Prairie pseudonym. A return to the same intriguing cracked blur of DIY analogue and digital production of the first record that makes it sound as though the tape is melting and the transfer to digital recording has resulted in corrupted files.
But everything seems more ambitious and expansive on Vol. 2—hookier hooks, wilder rock moves, a flute solo, and passages of dreamy psych-y wanderings. One for fans of Home Blitz, 1-800-Mikey, Rat Columns, The Country Teasers, and the Meat Puppets!
