Mongrel is an album at the intersection of identity and belonging in the postmodern age, where the bonds of social cohesion are in flux. It’s a response to an age of increasing isolation and polarisation and investigates concepts of feminism, gender, postcolonialism, multiculturalism, imposter syndrome, self-esteem and heartbreak.
Mongrel is about existing as an outsider, and the navigation of the individual, the ‘mongrel’ within mainstream Australian and global society. We’re all a part of the mess that is life in the 21st century - a fragmented world. We’re complicated beings. Mongrel questions the singularity of identity, puts complexity to the forefront and considers how we can attempt to navigate complex identities. –Second Idol
