Black Sabbath – Technical Ecstasy LP
Black Sabbath – Technical Ecstasy LP
*Lowers sunglasses down the bridge of nose* “Hey are you a bad enough dude (gender neutral usage) to buy a rare edition of the first non-universally acclaimed album by the best band there is? Oh that’s ok, have a nice day!”
It’s hard work being Black Sabbath on album number 7. You’re trying to compete with the cultural forces of ELO, Foreigner, Boston and ABBA, plus feeling the Punk Rock winds of change coming just around the corner. I think I enjoy ‘Technical Ecstasy’ more as a fan of mid-70s what's-a-good-synonym-for-bloated rock music recordings, than as a Black Sabbath album.
I don’t have a neat defense of this mostly panned LP, but I enjoyed it in (fellow staff member) Oli’s lounge room, and I’m enjoying a second Thursday morning spin in the store. Great to hear Bill Ward’s beautiful voice on ‘It's Alright’. Feel free to write in with your vision for rehabilitating ‘Technical Ecstasy’, I’m all ears. — Nic
