Wire – The Ideal Copy LP
Wire – The Ideal Copy LP
The first three Wire albums, what a cool and neat little bracket of music to be a fan of. Professing your love of this trilogy makes you look punk and arty, your personal brand is thriving. Their fourth album ‘The Ideal Copy’ (1987) muddies the legacy up a bit. Wire no longer sounds like “the future” (although to be fair I hear a fair bit of Roxy Music, rockin’ Eno and Pink Floyd in their initial run), but have embraced a contemporary sound palette similar to New Order and The Pet Shop Boys. Song and sound wise ‘The Ideal Copy’ contains the same curious creative spirit early Wire fans will know and love. A triumphant comeback! — Nic
