Sex Pistols – Never Mind The Bollocks Here's The Sex Pistols LP
A lot has been said about ‘Never Mind The Bollocks…’. How it dramatically changed the landscape of popular music in the late 1970s. How it gave license to swathes of untrained young people to participate in the arts. And while its cultural impact can’t be challenged, musically it’s not really much of a departure from pub rock or even Chuck Berry.
Today I’ll leave the big picture stuff to the experts and instead will zoom in on a microscopic level to inspect an underexamined aspect of this classic album. Side A, track 1, listen closely just after Jonathon Rotten sings, “I don’t want a holiday in the sun”. Is that a single toot of a plastic recorder? Genius stuff! - Nic
