Royal Trux – Veterans Of Disorder LP
Royal Trux – Veterans Of Disorder LP
I don’t care what anyone else reckons, Royal Trux were the best band of the 1990s. A band that bucked trends, pushed limits, and took what they could from the alt-rock revival and skewed it into their own warped and incredible vision of what rock music could be.
Their final LP of the decade, Veterans of Disorder feels a long way from the sprawling, abstract, clattering opus of their first release of the 90s, Twin Infinitives. The A-side is the band at perhaps their most straightforward, full of pop hooks, guitar moves, and infectious melodies (Stop > The Exception gotta be their best pop song 1-2 in the catalogue). Flip the record over and it’s much the same in terms of hooks and melodies, however the tracks begin to devolve and extend in length, brining out the slinky rhythms and warped structures everyone had come to know and love from the Trux.
One of the finest to ever do it, in the forever relevant words of David Berman: “I wish I had a thousand bucks / I wish I was the Royal Trux.” –Mitch
