RP Boo - Legacy Volume 2 2LP

The second archival compilation from RP Boo documents the origin and development of the dynamic and exhilarating Chicago Footwork sound. I'm having a hard time writing about 'Legacy Volume 2', not because it doesn't evoke a whole bunch of thoughts and feelings, BUT BECAUSE IT'S TOO DAMN EXCITING!

It's hard to place these tracks chronologically as Boo's music often feels not only ahead of its time, but outside of time. While it feels like we're hearing the beginning of a new musical world, tracks like 'Azzoutof Control' hark back to the Dance Mania days, reminding us that Footwork is in the same gene pool as House music, and makes me think that maybe these tracks weren't produced in the order you'd expect.

It's no secret that the Boo's Footwork came to be due to dancers' requests for faster and more frantic tracks, and the aforementioned links to Chicago's House music history. This response to regional influences, paired with a creative resourcefulness (most Footwork is made on modest equipment, in a non-"professional" setting) in my mind are the key to this radically unhomogenised, experimental and exciting sound! - Nic
