The new solo project of Madeleine Keinonen (of the great jangle-pop group, Dumb Things), mines the histories of Australian guitar pop. The closest reference point to me seems to be The Cannanes’ ‘Howling At All Hours’: jangly guitars and starkly observational songwriting. But alongside this exists an echo of The Triffids or The Go-Betweens song-craft (more faithful than so many bands that conjure up those groups in the press release!) and a kind of murky DIY/private press-ness that makes me think that a lot of these tracks would slip seamlessly somewhere into the comps of this nature (alongside Karen Marks on Sky Girl? Alongside Hydroplane on I Won’t Have To Think About You?).
