In his time, Australian motorcyclist Mick Doohan won five consecutive 500cc World Championships. Hobart garage punks Powernap are like a young Mick Doohan, before he got too tied up in competition and punching strip club bouncers. They are a greasy, wobbly bunch of black leather-wearing wackos who form the bounciest elastic band ball of garage punk creativity seen in this freezing town for ages.

The ‘Nap played their first show in early 2014 and have since lapped around Hobart playing with the likes of the Oblivians, Ausmuteants, Kid Congo & the Pink Monkey Birds, and Spray Paint. The only things you know going into each show is that it’ll be completely devoid of sterile pretense or fashionable sarcasm, and funnier than bobbing for LSD-soaked candy apples. Other than that, who knows? I could never tire of watching Georgia (drums/vocals) wailing, rushing out hilarious stories and hitting all the things. The only time she isn’t full throttle is to build up to her hog solo on Powernap’s shoplifting-from-corporate-giants anthem ‘Woolworths’ (You’ll have to find a copy of their cassette for that. It’s worth it.). Leary’s vocal cords wring the blood out of every vowel he writes like a shirtless Mick juicing a grapefruit with a chainsaw. Weary of the dreary? Powernap now! - Rough Skies
