This expanded rerelease for newish Philadelphia punk group, Poison Ruin, employs an approach that defies the arbitrary boundaries between punk/post-punk/hardcore/hard-rock that hints at Thin Lizzy as much as it does latter years Ramones or fellow Philadephians, Watery Love, but with an added touch of “dungeon synth.”
Like Blood Incantation’s intergalactic-inflected death, Poison Ruin’s dungeon synth isn’t necessarily a genre exercise or an excuse to play dress ups. Rather, it’s a vessel for crisp riffs and a pummelling rhythm section.
