Phrenelith - Ashen Womb LP

Phrenelith’s third full-length ‘Ashen Womb’ is, as the artwork and Me Saco Un Ojo logo on sleeve would suggest, Danish Death Metal for the end of days.

Where to situate ‘Ashen Womb’ within the flourishing world of contemporary but Death Metal? Obviously they’re in the right place label wise, as Phrenelith’s hypnotic, blackened riffs brought to my mind Ascendency’s ‘Manifest Of Imperious Destiny’ 12” (look at that, they share a guitarist) and the vulgar, doom-laben atmosphere of Vacuous – Dreams Of Dysphoria LP. 

Although I’ve alluded to armageddon and doom, it’s not an affair of anguish and misery, Phrenelith almost gleefully gallop head on into the flames. - Nic
