Debut album from a Melbourne group that’s already graced us with two excellent 7”s. On first listen what did I hear/feel? A tapestry of times, places and moods that usually might not go together. Traces of British ‘60s r ‘n’ b veering into psychedelia, with some art-rock/prog leanings, but in a way that’s unbound by the classic rock hegemony. At the same time it wouldn’t be out of place on Rough Trade Records in 1981. I feel the spirit of The Raincoats, Shop Assistants, Free Kitten and even Stereolab as much as I’m reminded I should give The Rolling Stones - Their Satanic Majesties. -Nic
