Adelaide's Oni existed briefly around the turn of the millennium and played a style of Death Metal that feels very relevant today. There's a disorientating proficiency I'd associate with Stargazer (maybe they even shared a member?) but paired with a crude, old school edge, probably partially due to recording limitations. Along with their technicality there's a brutality that'd sit nicely next to current Melbourne hot shots Vile Apparition and Gutless.
A part of me thought the "oriental influences" would be as dated as the maggi noodle flavour but the lyrical themes and atmospheric passages only maketh this a magical record. A great first release from Brisbane label Sphere of Apparition! Instead of reissuing a big-money-cult rarity that've collected a fragmented discography in a very complete way - Nic
