Mdou Moctar returns with another album of psychedelic shredding out of Niger. I spotted in an interview somewhere that he reckons the studio is a bit staid (as opposed to the live-streamed street party he held to launch the LP). I reckon he’s kinda right.
But that doesn’t mean this LP doesn’t have some moments that rule, especially the title track. Deep grooves and psych guitar explorations in a blues vein that are underpinned with political commentary in Tamasheq.
