Loren Connors - The Departing Of A Dream Volume V 10"

Didn’t wind up with many copies of this one, but it’s too good not to highlight. Loren Connors’ fifth instalment of a series loosely inspired by Miles Davis’ “He Loved Him Madly,” the moody atmospherics of the source track are reconstituted within Connors’ musical language.\

The fragile slide guitar playing of his work with Kath Bloom here gives way to something fuller sounding and more encompassing. At the risk of sounding pretentious, there’s something Rothko-esque about this release: a looming mass of sound that moves like the shadow of the instrument with echo and vibrato creating a shimmering feathered edge to the mass. A beautiful, impressionist, and surreal document of one of the contemporary greats!
