I wrote about Loren Connors’ work with Kath Bloom a few weeks ago, but this album sees him out on his own. The abstract-blues slide guitar of those albums (and his famed Unaccompanied Acoustic Guitar series) is absent, replaced here with an equally haunting overdriven electric guitar with lyrical lines that buzz with the threat of tipping over into squalling feedback. Originally released on CD in 1997, this album sits between more recent contemporaries like the calming meditation of the recent Blue Divers LP and Bill Orcutt’s blues-meets-noise shredding.
