Loren Connors and Suzanne Langille - Crucible LP
Loren Connors and Suzanne Langille - Crucible LP

Exactly the kind of LP you’d want and expect from Loren Connors: sparse double-tracked yet lyrical guitar compositions interspersed with three cuts of Suzanne Langille’s equally as haunting a capella vocals. All recorded in a perfectly cracked and murky in-the-red on a tape recorder fashion that only adds to the strange mystery of the record.
Like a dark mirror-world Ry Cooder, we get the full scope of Connors playing here, from blues shredding in molasses through to wailing leads and some of the most rockin’ rhythm playing I remember hearing from him.
Originally release in 1996, Crucible still feels incredibly contemporary, as though you can trace a line from this era of Connors’ work through to more recent releases by Warm Currency, Anthony Guerra, Rosali’s Edsel Axle project, Stefan Christensen, or even some of those in the Discreet Music universe.
