Lily Mullen is a 25 year old poet and musician with Down Syndrome living and playing in Oregon. Her debut album radiates a joyful approach to DIY music free from pretension (as it should be!), veering from solo acoustic ballads, to half-spoken drum machine and synth raps, to full band rockers featuring members of Lavender Flu and The Spatulas.

This is a record with a classic sound,—think Jonathan Richman, Kath Bloom, Patti Smith, the VU, and wisps of psychedelic folk in the vein of Donovan—but with a distinct and contemporary voice and worldview, with some of the most enjoyable and distinctive lyrics I’ve heard in ages, particular mention to “Strawberries of edge of gloryness” which makes me wish it was strawberry season down this way!
