Laurence Williams - Frozen Words CS

New release from violinist/improviser Laurence Williams known for his work with M.O.B., Placeholder, Subterranean Rain and more.

Two glacial, droning compositions that gradually swell and develop. I’m not entirely sure what’s going on instrumentally, sounds like some bowed cymbals, the occasional plink of a piano, some prepared string instruments maybe? All of it threaded through layers of reverb that obscure source material and create rhythm through undulating tones, an instrumental whir, or an electric crackle.

I also had a hard time placing this one—I’m sure drone-heads will have a better idea than I do—but reminds me of Jon Gibson’s Visitations without the 60s undertones, comes across as more industrial. -Mitch
