Early ‘80s soundclash-styled throwdown by echo chamber-nauts King Tubby, Scientist and Channel One, diffusing rhythms and songs by Slim Smith, Johnny Clarke, Pat Kelly, David Isaacs
Originally issued in 1980 as King Tubby & Scientist & Crucial Bunny ‘King Tubby Verses Channel One’, and as ‘King Tubby’s Studio Vs Channel One in Dub’ in the UK, it’s essentially a classic dub clash between proper Jamaican heavyweights, replete with clash-style intros by Striker Lee and Jah Stitch. It’s all pre-digital and rootsy, but full of analogue synth goodness and no doubt bags of FX, with Scientist at Tubby’s and Crucial Bunny at Channel One deftly diffusing the rhythms and sounds, hands-on-desk, into maziest, psychedelic 3D projections. - Jamaican Records
