Iwuda - Music For Iwuda CS
Iwuda is the solo project of First Nations bassist Davin Ojala. Named for the Anaiwan word for echidna, the project moves through jazz, groove, and a handful of other traditions to land somewhere bass-forward and distinctly its own.
Music for Iwuda, Ojala's debut album, was built in two halves: a run of duo compositions recorded live in single takes at Yill Lull Studio in Canberra, through the First Nations residency program Space to Create, and a set of solo sessions at Echidna Studios where Ojala layered and reshaped every bass part himself.
It's an album about searching — for cultural connection, for a way to represent himself musically. It's there in the sound too: a sparse starting point that grows the way understanding does, unevenly and never quite finished. –La Sape
