Having shape-shifted his way through a range of sounds and styles over the past decade, from dubby experiments in jungle and electronica, to the sample-based soul of his ‘Yeah Definitely’ album with Setwun and then his extended foray into ‘live’ territory with The Modern Pop Ensemble…Hugh has been restless in the pursuit of musical excellence! For his debut release on Best Effort he returns home sonically, to the genre he may be best known for and perhaps most comfortable in?! That’s correct, junglists, junglettes and all you non-binary jungle-heads! Hugh has blessed us with 8 tracks spanning a range of tempos (several above 160bpm) but all tied together by a thread of deep, rolling basslines, blissful pads and spiralling echoes of percussion and FX.
