After catching Griffin Ford and the Letter Openers last weekend, I figured it’s time to revisit his solo LP from last year.
While House Red differs from his current band/material, there’s a lot of similarities. A rambling surreal everyday lyricism (in the vein of Dylan or Joni) matched with a classic rock pomp (a la Springsteen, Lou, or Ferry) but done in a manner that feels faithful (but not a throwback/tribute act) while brings them into the contemporary (something that wouldn’t feel out of place alongside Strapping Fieldhands).
