Gene Clark - Two Sides To Every Story LP

With a hype sticker sporting praise that this LP is better than No Other, the follow up has fairly big shoes to fill. In reality it’s a bit of a bitsa record, with Gene perhaps flailing in direction, jumping around from tear-in-the-beer barroom ballads, to CCR-esque choogle, to hokey Americana-isms (“you’re either the newspaper boy or either Babe Ruth). The B-Side, though, is top shelf stuff. Heartbreaking songwriting that’s worthy of another side of No Other, with sparkling and lush arrangements, soul choirs, tripped out pedal steel, country guitar licks, and Clark’s voice in top form.
