EXEK - Prove The Mountains Move LP
Prove The Mountains Wrong marks the group’s first LP on DFA Records, which brings with it a price tag that says, “this record came from a distributor rather than dropped off by Albert or Jai in the shop.” After an insanely consistent string of records, they deliver yet again with an LP that can silence any tall-poppy!
This record bears all the hallmarks of the EXEK we know and love: looping post-dubby basslines, Albert’s wry observations, chord progressions that add a few extra changes when you’re least expecting it. On my first few listens this morning I can’t help notice that they’re pushing this formula slightly here. The songs seem slightly shorter yet melodically more dense. Vocals reach for notes that I don’t think I’ve heard hit on an EXEK LP before there’s a heavy piano presence throughout that at one time seems to quote INXS’ By My Side or Lou Reed’s Perfect Day, or both?
Have EXEK been listening to Jeff Lynne? If so, I welcome it!!
