We welcome Anti-Fade records, usually known for psych/garage/punk, into the world of ESOTERIC ROCK (a word I will use when I’ve typed Post-Punk too many times). What’s different on this Exek record? The bass sits a little lower, making room for float-y sonic aspects, creating a more lucid listening experience. It still recalls P.I.L., but if Johnny and co. learnt to chill out and chuck on a Klaus Schultz record. The press release for their last EP had the audacity to reference composer/legend Robert Ashley and I can also hear that here in both the spoke/sung delivery and the use of “everyday” vernacular.
