Engelhardt/Seef/Davis - abceefd LP

It’s not often I don’t know where to position a record. I did some research when the last Engelhardt/Seef/Davis LP came through (it looks very similar) and things just became murkier. Lord, help me connect this to Kye Records, Volcanic Tongues’ Hypnogogic Pop grouping, RER Records, a Lexicon Devil blog entry…. Help me place it anywhere on my music mind map!! Even the way we received this record was mysterious, hand delivered by a figure whose privacy I will keep intact. 

Apparently Engelhardt/Seef/Davis is German visual artist and painter Kai Althoff, who released an LP under this moniker in 1994 via Stuttgart's Künstlerhaus gallery. The art music world links explains my ignorance. 

On 2025's ‘abceefd’ LP the songs/sound pieces are propelled by pulsing rhythms with stabs of abstract voices and conventional-ish sounding keyboards played with their own singular logic on top. Imagine a post-Neu project that went the complete opposite direction to the fist pumping anthems of La Düsseldorf. Engelhardt/Seef/Davis have arrived at something that could come from the Idea Fire Company or Hype Williams extended universe, but from a different direction. Uniquely alien stuff.  — Nic
