I was lucky enough to catch this trio of young, tho already tastefully seasoned, Naarm experimental lads prior to a Troth set we played at the Absorb(ed) Festival at Miscellanea in March 2024.
The day before had been my birthday, Melbourne was experiencing a 40 degree+ day and Absorbed's median BPM appeared to be around 190. Let's say I was feeling a smidge fried.
dummy tree's blend of uneasy electronics and processed alto didn't do much to steady my singed nerves. Not left with a great deal of choice - either seek solace in the smoker's or ride their uneven waves - I chose to hold on for the white-knuckle thrill ride that was dummy tree. That day's recording would see light as a CD on Absorb in the months following.
'Does It Ever Come Down' sees the trio at another Miscellanea date, for the Entr Acte night, a month later. This would be their second convening as a trio and, rather than trying to write songs or be too rigid in their intent, they instead allowed the vaporous noise to flow out of their three gourds as needed. Trusting where the stream would lead them, not unlike myself melting into their sound a month earlier.
Sometimes you need to just let go, trust and it will bring you somewhere you didn't intend to tread. Hey, it's actually pretty pleasant after all.
- Altered States Tapes

For contextual purposes, dummytree is:
Jim Sellars (Yunzero)
Jordan Obarzanek (Body Clock, Cloud Ice 9)
Joseph Buchan (Other Joe)
~ playing drum machines, synths, oboe, sax, voice, guitar, bass.
