The solo project of the late Vixens member and Halifax punk artist, Rosie Davis, this is the debut release of Cry Out. Clocking in at just over 10 minutes, this is a no-filler 12" that collects the tracks she had just finished when she passed away earlier this year. Four cuts of anarcho-feminist punk that nod to Penis Envy-era Crass not just in the artwork design, but in it's more than meat-and-potatoes punk approach. Vocals that range from declarations of manifestos through to more contemplative verbed-out meditations, guitars that sit squarely in the red, stereo-panning studio mastery, even some synth thrown in the mix. My reference points within the punk world are all embarrassingly Sydney-centric, but this is a release that reminds me at various times of Angie's rock albums, BB & The Blips, Destiny 3000, Display Homes, or a group that could have shared the bill comfortably with Orion back in the day. Perhaps even the kind of thing that would appeal to those that have already worn out their copy of the latest Sweeping Promises LP. Top tier stuff! -Mitch
