Two veterans of Boston's '80s punk scene, Dredd Foole (Dan Ireton) and Ed Yazijian convene for a new album made from improvisations, pre-penned Dredd Foole originals plus covers of Tim Buckley's 'Buzzin' Fly' and J. Mascis' 'Someone Said' (here reconfigured as the eight-minute meditation 'Freedom'). Foole takes on vocals, guitars and percussion whilst Yazijian plays lead parts on a variety of instruments from lapsteel to violin. The dialogue between the two is very loosely held together, and at times bring to mind the sort of avant-rock reinterpretations of American roots music you'd hear from MV & EE or one of Wooden Wand's various projects. There's a real rawness to these documents that's largely uncoloured by effects, and there's certainly no post-production here - everything's been recorded on location in a single take at Dredd Foole's Vermont basecamp, and the whole project exudes a sense of in-the-moment intimacy. - Bo'Weavil Recordings
