In my eyes their debut album ‘Final Man’ (2017) is one of the most enduring modern metal records, that helped me power through many evenings cooking, washing up and preparing school lunch. If you feel somewhat the same, I’m warning you with peace and love, there may be an adjustment period for ‘Celebratory Beheading’....
Contaminated have devolved into an even more ignorant beast. Like as ignorant as using the same chopping board for raw meat and vegetables. I’m talking eating week old unrefrigerated hard boiled eggs ignorant. Any minuscule trace of good time listening comfort in classic-early-death-metal-earworm-riffage has been banished.
In my experience, initial listens to the most long-term rewarding metal albums are often somewhat perplexing and gruelling, but there’s something drawing me further in. Something I need to make sense of. This very much applies here. With a half-dozen listens the intuitive group-logic and dense amount of tact and ideas within the self imposed minimalist parameters have unlocked a highly affecting and addictive record.
I don’t think this is just good death metal, it’s art that really captures something about the dark and puerile side of existence. - Nic
