Cold Meat - Cake & Arse Party 7"

Never mind their globally beloved soft-psych bollocks, here’s more evidence for Perth being the punk capital of Australia!

In my mind Cold Meat belong to a modern tradition of bands non-specifically aligned to any particular subsect of punk music that would also include Good Throb, Frau, Judy & The Jerks, BB & The Blips, Red Red Krovvy, Concrete Lawn etc. It’s a list that includes many pissed off, poetic, smart and funny women.

In the Cold Meat sound you could hear a dash of the pre-Hardcore LA scene (will the version of the first Go-Go’s 1st album played at punk speed ever come to light?), a splash of the more melodically inclined crevasses of the Crass commune (Fatal Microbes, Poison Girls, Penis Envy da album), the eternal spirit of DIY and Riot Grrrl are all in there, but with pertinent to modern times, rude, defiant, LOL-worthy observations on cold, hard social/political realities.

Like all CM records it looks and sounds great and I feel #blessed to experience it! - Nic
