Coffin Prick’s debut LP ‘Laughing’ really felt like a more considered and singular take on a hybrid electronics/rock project than other contemporary offerings. I don’t mean it sounds like a Toyota Prius, but continues on a synth/drummachine-in-band tradition of Chrome, Devo and Ralph Records without sounding like a booger eater.
A remix album could’ve dulled the internal legacy I’ve given ‘Laughing’, a definite Top 5 of 2023, but dang it just highlights just how good those saturated drum machines, Fripp-y guitars, squiggly synths, basically the whole she-bang sounds!
Re-mixes/re-invigorations from marketable names like Melt Banana, YoshimiO (Boredoms), Ian Williams (Battles), members of Tortoise, or more exciting to me Roadhouse, Beau Wanzer and Ed Sunspot (aka Robert Beatty).
The result lands near the best of Eric Copeland/Black Dice, Carl Stone, Craig Leon, or those couple of cheap to acquire Sakamoto/Dolby and Sakamoto/Sylvian extended 12” pop singles I love so much. Howzabout a volume 2 with some footwork names involved?? - Nic
