After their 2020 sophomore LP garnered much praise overseas, we’ve been able to nab a few copies of Cindy’s self-titled (and self-released) 2018 debut. An LP of smoky tracks replete with observational lyricism, a cruising rhythm section, and shimmering guitar vibrato and chime that sits in a kind of post-dream pop, post-jangle territory. 

Nods to garage pop (of a kind of Woollen Kits or Friendsters-bent) lie alongside Nico-esque ballads but done so with a simplicity and seeming effortlessness. Maybe it’s in how spare and minimal the record is that it is so evocative of a kind of lump-in-your-throat feeling that so many guitar pop groups seem to strive for but rarely achieve!
