Cathy Burke - Born Soft LP
Cathy Burke - Born Soft LP
Cathy makes music from another time, her own time. Steeped in tradition yet forging her own sound, she ushers songs which are both familiar and formless. Using simple frailing style banjo spun with melodic vocals, her music is full and whole, yet spacious. Cathy is drawn to performance, as a moment to unravel her identity and leave it neatly folded on the stage floor, every time with a little less ego and a little more of the essence that is all of us. She gently invites her audiences on this inward journey.
Born Soft, Cathy’s debut solo album, features sisters-in-law Cathy Burke on banjo and vocals, and renowned musician, Kate Burke on fiddle and backing vocals, and was recorded live to tape at Sound Recordings. Launched at the Guildford Music Hall to a sell-out crowd, it is, unwittingly, a yearning for returning home, unknown where or what that is. Each track is a moth wing, beauty paired with simplicity, the sublime and unremarkable sitting together, as they do.
