Blank Forms Vol. 6: Organic Music Societies Book
Trying my hand at being the new Dua Lipa or Oprah with… Repressed Records book club time! Although our selection of new books at Repressed is limited by shelf space at the moment, only the finest make the cut to be stocked.
One of which, Blank Forms’ deep dive into the Organic Music project of Don and Maki Cherry in the late 60s and early 1970s. Replete with essays, interviews with Don and Terry Riley, accounts of the workshops and educational events, the book provides a deep dive into the pairs efforts to collaborate with musicians around the world in a manner that learnt from and engaged (organically?) with the forms and ways of making music from across those cultures.
A hefty tome with plenty of info (the best deep dive on this era of Don’s life???) it is also richly illustrated with incredible photos of Moki’s tapestries and costumes for those that love a picture too. Not to mention the fact that this focus of Moki’s work reestablishes her central role within this particular movement itself! –Mitch
