Blanche Blanche Blanche - Seashells LP

I turned up to work today delighted to see another Blanche Blanche Blanche album had been added to our inventory! The duo of Sarah Smith and Zach Phillips have further honed their craft of idea-dense keyboard and vocal miniatures that rarely break the 2min mark. BBB allude to a flippant, kitsch, public access TV style of entertainment, as well as making considered, skilled and conceptually serious art. It’s gotta be one of the top modes of musical operation of all time! 

I loved ‘Wooden Ball’ (2013) a few years back and ‘Seashells’ (2021) is even better! So many funny lyrics to ponder and bonkers casio(?) tones. I would put the following things on the Blanche Blanche Blanche moodboard: Slapp Happy, Half Japanese, “Chooch-a-Bahn” music (that’s a very local time/place reference), having a fun party with great conversations, Jan Terri, and of course “Blue” Gene Tyranny (who himself was a BBB fan). - Nic

Their first release in over six years, "Seashells" is the 10th full-length record by Blanche Blanche Blanche (Zach Phillips and Sarah Smith). As "Blue" Gene Tyranny once wrote to BBB, "I really, really have been enjoying your albums. To me they are a pure modern bop style, but don't let me characterize your writing in any way. They are just quite wonderful. The ever-evolving disjunctive bop stimulates in my mind thoughts of hearing Lambert Hendrix and Ross with a tiny bit of disjunctive Zappa.
