Bill Converse - Trust LP
Another stellar release from Lansing, Michigan raised Austin, Texas based rhythmic electronic music maestro Bill Converse. I struggle each time to convey why I like Bill’s bleeps, boops, zaps, bangs, bumps and thumps more than others. I think it may be that his music feels strangely living and breathing for something that’s fully machine based.
The way everything sits, the air and space between the sounds, reminds me of how incredibly satisfying Severed Heads TR808 and Roland SH-1 recorded direct-to-sharehouse-tapemachine feels, as much as what I know of his midwestern rave music lineage. There’s both the spontaneity and limitations in the usage of hardware that’s off-the-wall but also measured and minimal. I like all his records I’ve heard, but this is a particularly good one!
